[Poem] She Glides

2008-08-18 @ 11:24 p.m.

she glides a swan to steal the glance of
upright soldiers fighting wars to
win rebellion back from those
who held it fifty years ago and
teach the taste of pink,
the feel of gleaming gloss and glitter
against eager fingertips
exploring
places charted dozens of times
by adventurers less brave,

hollow, bleeding, a jester
grins back from the mirror with painted smiles a mockery of
all her mother stood for
she
broke away and broke herself and broke her future too,
and theirs,
cherubs with fat cheeks and hair like curls of smoke swathed in clouds
bright with shine, glowing
with
mercy

she doesn't want and

it's all winding down
all winding
down
to the end when she will take
one last breath and say good
bye good
riddance good
fortune
to those who succeed her
as the swan
