[Poem] Pearls of Virtue

2007-11-18 @ 12:33 a.m

There was a person I knew a long time ago
Her heart beat slowly to the pattern of the raindrops
She drank despair
And the flowers melted in her hands
In the end she withered
Fed no longer by dreams of darkness

Could it be she never died?
I thought her starved and broken

Now she reaches out from the deepest parts of me
Clawing at my consciousness
Dragging her way out of the depths

I want her gone
The angel whose breath was honey-sweet
The angel who took her place has gone away
Pushed out of me by something more feral

A nature more beautiful
A nature blacker than coal
Falling, breathing sin
Drowning in sin
Living in sin
Drained by sin
Hungering for sin

I want to be stronger than the witch
My mouth is full of ashes

I can sing no more.
