[Poem] Forge

your name on the
certificate
of authenticity,

rebuke the gods that claim to know
what
was once
or what
will be and

gather up the ropes and threads
and chains and cords and leads and wires

tear them, twist them, build them up
into
a palace
spire
climbing

to the
sky and grip on tight like your
life depends
on your fingertips and
wrench yourself
away
from clinging
earth and vines and grass and painful
mundane
drudging
mediocrity

stairway to heaven,
a swinging rope-braid

like the dangling death sentence
in the corner
of an elementary school gym

no reason to fret my darling pet
it's all
in
your hands
now
and you can make your way

forge
your treacherous, tattered
dilapidated, renovated,
many-times-forgotten,
death trap of a stairway
to heaven
